Launching a Premium Haircare Innovation

The Challenge:

Launch Miracle Renewal, a premium relaxer innovation designed to help re-establish Dr. Miracle's leadership position in the category. Once the #3 brand in African-American hair care, Dr. Miracle's key success metrics—brand loyalty, relevance, and consumption—had declined. Competition within the highly fragmented textured hair care category, particularly the relaxer segment, had produced a multitude of competing claims aimed at an increasingly savvy consumer.

The Insight:

As options expanded, Black women became increasingly knowledgeable consumers—understanding the potentially damaging effects of relaxing while actively seeking ingredients that supported overall hair health.

The Solution:

Developed cross-platform communications acknowledging the elephant in the room—relaxers weaken hair bonds during straightening– while introducing a simple but disruptive claim in TV, print, OOH, and digital ads: “Miracle Renewal leaves hair healthier than before you relaxed”. A product-led creative approach helped differentiate Miracle Renewal within a crowded category.

Results:

While the client did not publicly disclose official sales figures or market share data for the Miracle Renewal launch, available indicators suggested qualitative success—including strong media praise and consumer interest, particularly around the innovative DuoCare concept.
